'The Little Vulva' was a solo show by Eilidh Reilly, using sculpture, illustration and story-telling to explore objectification, rape culture and the traditional role of working-class woman as story-teller, warning us of the danger that lurks beneath the surface of society.
The stories we hear as children form our impression of the world. They communicate to us about morality, sexuality and society, simultaneously reflecting and shaping human understanding and culture. But what if the tales our society tells are corrupt? What if their lessons intend to condition us to conform to our own oppression?
Eilidh studied Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art before going on to earn her Masters in 2021. Her practice encompasses sculpture, illustration, 2D animation, performance to camera and almost tangible fascination for the art of story-telling, that ultimately underpins every piece of work she makes.
As a working-class woman, her drive to make work stems from the desire to explore the systems of inequality that are so deeply ingrained in our culture they are simply accepted as inevitable facts of a society. Through her work, Eilidh hopes to confront and interrogate these societal structures, she wants to pull them apart and expose their ragged seams.
